Melanie Hynes, VP of Innovation at myNEXUS, participated in a charity luncheon benefiting Take Stock in Children on Tuesday, February 5, 2015.
The organization is a state of Florida non-profit and is one of 26 groups to receive an investment in innovation (i3) grant from the United States Department of Education. Take Stock in Children has a 20-year history of providing a proven solution for more than 24,000 students across the state [of Florida] to escape poverty through education, reporting an unparalleled high school graduation rate of 96 percent, with 87 percent enrolling in college.
Ms. Hynes volunteers her time mentoring a young woman in high school in the Pasco County chapter, meeting the mentee for lunch several times a month. They also participate in volunteering events together. In return for their attendance and participation, the graduates of the program receive scholarships for furthering their education.
myNEXUS takes pride in enabling adults struggling with chronic diseases to live more independently. The company supports a variety of initiatives like Take Stock in Children because it offers underprivileged young adults similar opportunities to live independently and succeed, despite the financial challenges their parents have experienced.
